ABOUT
Jacquie Sochacki-Pittman is a dance researcher, choreographer and educator currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Dance Studies at The Ohio State University. She holds a double-major B.A. in Studio Art and Visual Communication with a minor in Dance from Loyola University Chicago, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2015.
She is an artist and a maker, with her main research interests consisting of dance choreography and dance education with an interdisciplinary interest in music composition, poetry and painting. Her current studio-based research has culminated into a solo exploration of how a changing breath tempo can influence choreography, especially how breath modified by anxiety influences her movement.
Previously, she has taught ballet, modern and contemporary dance in the metro-Detroit area at several pre-professional dance studios, including Spotlight Dance Works and Julianna’s Academy of Dance. She has also been a guest ballet teacher at Wayne State University. She has also danced with Artlab J, a contemporary dance company based in Detroit, MI and Dance In the Annex (DITA), a contemporary dance company based in Grand Rapids, MI.
